Preparing for your End of Year Work Function 🥳

The end of the year is fast approaching which means many businesses will be preparing for their end of year work function.

While these events are a great opportunity to celebrate and show appreciation for all the hard work everyone has put in over the year, it’s also important to remember that work functions are still considered ‘work activities’, even if they’re held off-site and after hours.

This means employers still have a duty of care to ensure a safe work environment is provided, and employees must continue to adhere to related work policies and procedures.

We recommend ensuring you have covered the following prior to your workplace function:

  • Have policies and procedures for:

    • Bullying and Harassment

    • Sexual Harassment

    • Drugs and Alcohol in the Workplace

    • Social Media and Communication

  • Provide refresher training to employees on these policies and procedures.

  • Provide employees with event details including start and finish times and a reminder that it is a work-related event.

  • Provide food and non-alcoholic drinks during the event.

  • Monitor and limit the consumption of alcohol during the event.

  • Remind employees that they require safe transport home if they choose to drink alcohol, or ensure you provide employees with safe transport home e.g., buses, taxi vouchers etc.

We have developed this handy editable template to help you with communicating this information to your employees. Send your invitation with copies of your associated policies.
